Nalin Gupta aspires to be a physician-scientist specializing in pediatric neurology. He aims to build a career applying engineering tools to advocate for patients on a systemic level, extending his impact beyond the clinic. He is committed to transforming healthcare by developing tools that emphasize early detection, non-invasive techniques, and quantification, identifying gaps in current medical modalities and driving innovations that bring greater transparency to patients and clinicians.
Nalin is a biomedical engineering student at Washington University in St. Louis, with research spanning diffusion MRI tractography for glioblastoma at WUSM and computational analysis of CNS tumor biopsy sequencing at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner School of Medicine. His main engineering interests are signals, systems, and modeling.
He co-founded Flipside, a health-tech startup focused on pressure ulcer monitoring, tested across four community assisted-living facilities. He has been involved with Sling Health for three years, starting as a freshman on the startup team Craniosonic, prototyping a device to non-invasively measure intracranial pressure, before joining the executive board as Co-President, where he has overseen 20 health-tech startups and built curricula and resources to support emerging ventures.
He also founded Cleveland Gives Back, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit recognized nationally with the Peace First Mini-Grant, distributing over 2,000 hygiene products to recovery centers across Northeast Ohio. He is a published researcher, a Startup World Cup Semifinalist, and a Skandalaris Venture Competition Semifinalist, and his Flipside team received funding through the Holekamp Seed Fund and the Skandalaris Innovation Fund. He was awarded the Junior Academic Excellence Award at WashU for a 4.0 GPA, and the Visionary Voice of the Quarter Award at Pulse Labs for his contributions to AI model improvements for Google and OpenAI.
As a pre-medical student applying for the 2027 entering class, he is pursuing an MD to become a physician-scientist who uses engineering and quantitative approaches to advance pediatric neurological care.
